Enhancing Saudi Arabia’s Defense Capabilities with SAMI Anti-Drone Defense System

Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) has emerged as a key player in the defense industry, aiming to become one of the top 25 defense contractors globally by 2030. With a focus on localization and strategic partnerships, SAMI is actively enhancing Saudi Arabia’s defense capabilities. One critical area of development is the anti-drone defense system, which aims to protect vital infrastructure and military bases.

SAMI’s Ambition

SAMI CEO Walid Abukhaled envisions SAMI as a major force in defense manufacturing. Since its inception in 2018, SAMI has achieved significant milestones, including revenue growth and winning contracts. The organization aims to localize 50% of defense spending by 2030, emphasizing the importance of domestic production.

SAMI’s Anti-Drone Defense System

Development and Features

SAMI is collaborating with international partners to develop a new counter-drone system. This system combines “soft kill” and “hard kill” options to counter various types of drones, from small civilian models to professional militarized threats. Key components include:

  1. Radar Systems: These detect and track incoming drones.
  2. Command-and-Control Stations: Centralized control for effective response.
  3. Advanced Networking Capability: Ensures seamless communication and coordination.

Protecting Vital Infrastructure

Saudi Arabia’s critical infrastructure faces threats from drones, both in peacetime and during conflicts. SAMI’s anti-drone system aims to safeguard military bases, oil facilities, and other essential assets. By integrating cutting-edge technology, SAMI enhances the Kingdom’s security posture.

Co-Production of Sky Guard UAV

In collaboration with another Saudi company, SAMI is co-producing the Sky Guard Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) system. This joint effort enriches local expertise and contributes to national defense capabilities.

SAMI’s commitment to innovation, localization, and strategic partnerships positions Saudi Arabia for a stronger defense future. As the organization continues to develop its anti-drone defense system, it reinforces the Kingdom’s security and resilience against evolving threats.
