Dr. Khalid Al-Issa, CEO of the Saudi Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Commission, stated that the first nuclear plant is on track, as reported by “Al-Eqtisadiah” during the sidelines of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Safety, which began today in Vienna.

☢️ Al-Issa, who led the Saudi delegation at the conference, mentioned that “Saudi Arabia is an active member of the IAEA, with a longstanding interest in nuclear energy.” He noted that Saudi interest in nuclear energy has intensified under Vision 2030, necessitating the enhancement of regulatory frameworks and meeting standards.

☢️ He pointed out that participation in the four-day IAEA Ministerial Conference aims to exchange experiences with countries worldwide and consider a better future for the energy system. He added that Saudi Arabia aims to be part of this robust framework for international cooperation, emphasizing its role as an active player in the region.

☢️ Regarding the contribution of nuclear energy to the Saudi energy mix, Al-Issa said that Saudi Arabia is still in its early stages but has an ambitious project, currently the 1 station.

☢️ On the extent of Saudi Arabia’s compliance with international safety standards, Al-Issa affirmed, “The commission exercises its regulatory role in all its legal and legislative aspects, and we have greatly benefited from IAEA missions.”

☢️ Al-Issa noted that the latest @IAEA mission assessed the regulatory level and recognized Saudi Arabia’s position, highlighting the country’s seriousness and commitment to achieving a distinguished qualitative level.
