Woman in Critical Condition After Hit-and-Run in Rathkeale

A woman in her 20s is in a critical condition after being struck by a van in a hit-and-run incident in Rathkeale, County Limerick, earlier today.

The incident occurred at around 12:15 p.m. outside a house on Bank Place, a narrow road in Rathkeale. The woman was standing beside large gates attached to a property when she was hit by a silver Ford Transit van. According to Gardaí, the driver of the van failed to stop at the scene of the incident and did not offer assistance to the injured woman.

Emergency services arrived shortly after the collision, and the woman was transported to University Hospital Limerick. She remains in critical condition, though her identity has not been released.

Gardaí have sealed off the scene for a technical examination, and an investigation is underway. They are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have information to come forward. Specifically, Gardaí are asking for any road users or pedestrians who were in the area between 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to provide any camera footage, including dashcam footage.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact Rathkeale Garda Station at 069 63222, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

The incident has raised concerns about road safety in the area, and Gardaí continue to appeal for the public’s help in identifying the driver responsible.
