RG Snyman Extends Leinster Stay for Another Season

Double World Cup-winning lock RG Snyman will remain at Leinster for another season after signing a one-year contract extension with the province.

The South African second row joined Leinster from Munster last summer and has quickly become a fan favorite. Since his arrival, Snyman has made 14 appearances across the BKT United Rugby Championship (URC) and Investec Champions Cup, scoring four tries.

IRFU Clears Snyman’s Extension

Initially expected to stay for just one season, Snyman’s extension was approved by the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU), which is satisfied that his continued presence will not hinder the development of Leinster’s young second-row prospects.

His contract reportedly includes stipulations on when he can be selected for matches. So far, Snyman has been named among the replacements for all four of Leinster’s Champions Cup pool fixtures.

Snyman Settled in Ireland

The 30-year-old has expressed a strong desire to remain in Ireland for a sixth season, having settled well since moving to Munster in 2020. His time at Munster, however, was plagued by injuries, including two ACL tears, which limited him to just 20 appearances over four years.

His fortunes at Leinster have been far better, already featuring 14 times in his debut season with the Dublin-based side.

Another Key Retention for Leinster

Snyman becomes the second major Leinster signing from last summer to commit to another season, following veteran tighthead prop Rabah Slimani, who also recently signed a contract extension.

The South African’s continued presence is expected to bolster Leinster’s squad depth as they compete on multiple fronts in the URC and Champions Cup next season.
