Brendan Rodgers declared he had “never been happier” at Celtic after guiding the club to their fourth consecutive Scottish Premiership title with a dominant 5-0 win over Dundee United at Tannadice.
The victory, sealed by two goals from Republic of Ireland striker Adam Idah and further strikes from Nicolas Kuhn and an own goal by Ryan Strain, secured Celtic’s 13th league title in 14 seasons. It also marked Rodgers’ 11th major trophy across his two spells at the club. The 52-year-old now has the opportunity to complete a third domestic treble if Celtic beat Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final.
Speaking after the match, Rodgers emphasised his commitment to Celtic, firmly denying recent speculation about his future. “I said 150, 200 percent I’ll be here next season because we want to build again, we want to grow,” he insisted. “Absolutely, I am so, so happy.”
Rodgers, who famously left Celtic mid-season in 2019 to manage Leicester City, admitted that returning to Glasgow had been driven by both a professional challenge and a deep emotional connection to the club. “My emotional attachment to the club clearly has me here rather than elsewhere,” he said. “And just the chance to be the best manager at Celtic that I can possibly be.”
Reflecting on the team’s dominant season, Rodgers brushed off any suggestions that Celtic’s march to the title had been routine. “If we land at 15 points ahead with five games left and a plus-42 goal difference ahead of our nearest rival, that’s not tedious — that’s professionalism at the highest level,” he said.
Despite the celebrations, there was some concern for winger Jota, who suffered a knee injury in the first half and was later seen with his leg heavily braced. Rodgers confirmed the medical team were assessing potential meniscus damage and that more would be known in the coming days.
Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin, meanwhile, lamented the quick turnaround in momentum during the match. “The first goal was a real kick in the teeth,” he said. “We started well but within a few seconds of a promising attack, Celtic’s counterattack ended with the ball in our net.”
Celtic now turn their attention to the Scottish Cup final as they aim to cap another remarkable season under Rodgers’ leadership.
