Ryanair has set a new passenger milestone, flying a record 20.7 million passengers in July, according to figures released by the airline on Monday. The latest data marks a 3% increase compared to the same month last year, when 20.2 million passengers were recorded.
The budget carrier operated over 113,000 flights during the month, despite disruptions caused by air traffic control strikes in France, which led to the cancellation of approximately 680 services.
Ryanair’s load factor — the percentage of available seating capacity filled by passengers — remained strong at 96%, maintaining the same level as July 2024. The figure reflects the airline’s continued efficiency in maximizing occupancy across its vast European network.
On a rolling 12-month basis, Ryanair carried 203.1 million passengers by the end of July, representing a 7% increase year-on-year. The airline, which has grown into Europe’s largest low-cost carrier, has benefited from a strong summer travel season and robust demand across its key markets.
The airline has attributed much of its growth in recent years to its expansive route network, competitive pricing, and fleet expansion, including the introduction of fuel-efficient Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. However, the persistent disruption from European air traffic control strikes, particularly in France, remains a challenge for Ryanair and other European airlines.
Despite such headwinds, Ryanair continues to post impressive growth figures, reinforcing its leading position in the post-pandemic travel rebound. Industry analysts suggest the carrier is on track to meet or exceed its full-year traffic and revenue targets, barring further operational disruptions.
Ryanair has not commented further on the outlook for August but is expected to benefit from continued summer travel demand and ongoing network expansions into secondary airports across Europe.
