Financial technology giant Stripe has been announced as the new title sponsor of the Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition (YSTE), succeeding BT Ireland, which stepped down earlier this year after a 25-year partnership.
Stripe, co-founded by Limerick-born brothers Patrick and John Collison, has signed a five-year sponsorship deal following a competitive selection process. Patrick Collison, now CEO of the global payments company, is a former overall winner of the exhibition in 2005, while his brother John won a category award.
“YSTE is a special institution for me and John,” said Patrick Collison. “It amplified our curiosity and reinforced our confidence at a critical juncture. We’re honoured that Stripe has been selected to help preserve it for generations to come.”
The YSTE Board said Stripe was chosen for its strong vision for the future of the event, its long-term commitment, and its capacity to support the logistical needs of the large-scale exhibition, which attracts over 40,000 visitors annually. The competition showcases science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) projects from secondary school students across Ireland.
Professor Pat Guiry, Chairperson of the YSTE Board, praised Stripe’s enthusiasm for continuing the exhibition’s legacy. “What really struck the board was the level of commitment and passion Stripe displayed in wanting to honour the vision of Dr Tony Scott and Rev Dr Tom Burke, who founded YSTE in 1965,” he said.
Professor Guiry also acknowledged the longstanding partnership with BT Ireland. “Collaborating with BT Ireland has been a true privilege. Their dedication helped shape the exhibition into a global showcase of young talent,” he said.
Minister for Education Helen McEntee thanked BT for its decades of support and welcomed Stripe’s involvement. “We look forward to working with Stripe as they continue to empower students to embrace new ideas, foster curiosity, and encourage a love of learning,” she said.
Dr Tony Scott, one of the exhibition’s founders, expressed optimism about the event’s future under Stripe’s stewardship. “It’s vital that we sustain and evolve the exhibition to keep inspiring young, inquiring minds,” he said.
The next Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition will take place from 7 to 10 January 2026. Online entries are now open, with a submission deadline of 26 September 2025.
