Greencoat Renewables Acquires 50% Stake in South Meath Solar Farm

Greencoat Renewables, a prominent renewable energy investor, has successfully completed the acquisition of a 50% stake in the 80.5MWp South Meath solar farm located in County Meath. The stake was purchased from Statkraft, a leading international energy company.

The deal was executed in collaboration with investment manager Schroders Greencoat LLP, whose managed funds have acquired the remaining 50% stake in the solar farm. This strategic acquisition highlights Greencoat Renewables’ commitment to expanding its renewable energy portfolio and enhancing its role in the global green energy market.

A significant aspect of this transaction is a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) secured with a “leading technology company,” which will cover 100% of the solar farm’s production. This agreement ensures a stable and long-term cash flow for the solar farm, reinforcing the vital contribution of renewable energy firms in powering the rapidly growing technology sector.

Paul O’Donnell, Partner at Schroders Greencoat LLP, expressed satisfaction with the acquisition, stating, “Having entered into a forward sale agreement in July 2022, we are pleased to further diversify our portfolio through the completion of the acquisition of the South Meath solar farm from Statkraft, a key strategic partner.” He added, “As the largest operator of wind assets in Ireland, we remain focused on delivering PPAs with large, highly reputable counterparties.”

The acquisition underscores the importance of renewable energy sources in achieving sustainability goals and supporting the energy needs of various sectors, including technology. The partnership between Greencoat Renewables and Schroders Greencoat LLP exemplifies a strategic approach to investment in renewable energy projects, ensuring both environmental benefits and financial stability.

Statkraft’s role as a strategic partner in this transaction further cements its position as a key player in the renewable energy sector, working alongside other major investors to promote green energy initiatives. The South Meath solar farm is set to play a crucial role in Ireland’s renewable energy landscape, contributing to the country’s efforts to meet its renewable energy targets and reduce carbon emissions.

This acquisition by Greencoat Renewables and Schroders Greencoat LLP highlights the growing trend of investment in renewable energy projects, driven by the increasing demand for sustainable energy solutions and the need to address climate change. The successful completion of this deal marks a significant milestone in the ongoing transition towards a greener, more sustainable future.
