Man Charged in Connection with Knife Attacks in Dublin’s Stoneybatter

A 29-year-old man has been charged in connection with a series of knife attacks in the Stoneybatter area of Dublin over the weekend.

Gabriel Fereira Motta Valladeres, of Broadstone Avenue, appeared before Dublin District Court on multiple charges, including two counts of assault causing harm and possession of offensive weapons under the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act.

Details of the Incident

Mr. Valladeres is accused of assaulting two men in separate attacks on Sunday, February 9. One victim was attacked on Oxmantown Road, while another was assaulted on Niall Street, both in Dublin 7.

In addition to the assault charges, he has been charged with the possession of a box-cutting knife on Murtagh Road and possession of scissors on Manor Place, both of which were considered sharply pointed weapons under the law.

Court Appearance and Charges

During the court hearing, Detective Garda David Chapman of Bridewell Garda Station provided evidence of the arrest, charge, and caution.

According to Detective Chapman, Mr. Valladeres was arrested at 10:30 pm on Sunday night and formally charged at 11:30 pm.

When questioned about the charges, Mr. Valladeres remained mostly silent, responding “no comment” to the first charge. However, when confronted with the second charge, he stated:

“I was afraid to be killed.”

His solicitor, Michael French, did not apply for bail but requested immediate medical attention for his client, a request that was granted by Judge Áine Clancy.

The judge ordered that Mr. Valladeres receive medical care and remanded him in custody. He is set to appear before Cloverhill District Court via video link on February 18, where a bail application is expected to be made.

Emotional Court Appearance

During the hearing, Mr. Valladeres, who is originally from Brazil, appeared visibly distressed and wept throughout the proceedings.

The case remains under investigation, and further legal proceedings are expected in the coming days.
