Google to Open New Dublin Office with Space for 1,900 Employees

Google has announced plans to open a new office building in Dublin’s Docklands, expanding the technology company’s presence in Ireland and creating space for up to 1,900 employees.

The building, known as The Bakery, is located on Grand Canal Street on the site of the original City of Dublin Bakery, founded by Patrick Boland in 1874. The property also has historical links to the 1916 Easter Rising, having been occupied by Éamon de Valera during the rebellion.

In more recent years, the site housed the Treasury Building and served as the headquarters of the National Treasury Management Agency and the National Asset Management Agency.

Google purchased the property in 2020 for €120 million. The first employees are expected to move into the new office from late next year.

The Bakery will add 325,000 square feet to Google’s existing Irish operations and will include a dedicated events hub. The company already employs around 6,000 people in Ireland.

Google also owns the nearby Boland’s Mills site, which it bought in 2018 and later developed into a combination of offices, residential buildings and cultural spaces.

Ruth Porat, president and chief investment officer of Alphabet and Google, said Ireland had been home to Google’s European headquarters for more than two decades.

“With the opening of The Bakery, we are delighted to celebrate our decades of investment and our enduring commitment to ensure Ireland can both drive and benefit from the opportunities of this era of innovation,” she said.

The announcement came alongside the release of a report by Implement Consulting Group, which estimated that Google contributed more than €10 billion to Ireland’s gross domestic product in 2025.

The report also said the company’s activities supported more than 18,000 jobs across the wider Irish economy.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin welcomed the expansion, saying Google’s decision to increase its presence in Dublin strengthened Ireland’s position as an international digital centre.

“By expanding their footprint here, Google is reinforcing Ireland’s position as a digital leader internationally,” Martin said.

He added that the site’s history made the development particularly significant.

“It is also fitting that a building so central to Ireland’s political emergence is now an engine room for our digital and economic future,” he said.

The opening of The Bakery will add to Google’s long-term investment in Ireland, where the company has maintained its European headquarters for more than 20 years. The new office is expected to become another major workplace and events location within Dublin’s growing technology district.
