Scottish Labour candidate suspended due to ‘racist’ posts on social media

Labour has suspended a candidate for parliament while an investigation is conducted following her endorsement and sharing of several social media posts deemed “racist” and contentious.

Wilma Brown, who was vying for the Kirkcaldy and Cowdenbeath constituency, previously represented by former Prime Minister Gordon Brown, has removed her account on X after reports of her engagement with a series of tweets surfaced within the party.

Labour candidate in Scotland suspended over ‘racist’ social media activity

A constituent in the Scottish constituency compiled a list of tweets showcasing Brown’s online activity. Brown had supported a post suggesting that an Indian man could “never be an Englishman,” and another derogatorily referring to Scotland’s First Minister, Humza Yousaf, as the “first minister of Gaza” and “Hamas Yousless”.

A spokesperson for the Labour Party stated, “We treat all complaints seriously and thoroughly investigate them according to our rules and procedures, taking appropriate action as necessary.”
