Amazon is recruiting for 200 new positions at its operations sites in Dublin as the online retail company expands its workforce in Ireland.
The jobs will be spread across Amazon’s main fulfilment centre in Baldonnel and its delivery stations in Rathcoole and Ballycoolin. The company said the recruitment drive will strengthen its operations and support growing customer demand.
Amazon’s Baldonnel facility, which opened in 2022, currently employs about 700 people. The site was launched with the creation of 500 jobs and has since become an important part of the company’s logistics network in Ireland.
Alongside the new recruitment drive, Amazon has announced an increase in the minimum starting wage for frontline operations employees in Ireland. From September 27, the starting rate will rise to €17.10 per hour, representing an increase of €0.65 per hour.
Darragh Kelly, Amazon’s Regional Director for Logistics in the UK and Ireland, said the pay increase reflected the company’s focus on its frontline workforce.
“Our frontline employees are at the heart of everything we do, and this pay increase reflects our continued commitment to investing in the people who make Amazon work for customers every day,” Kelly said.
He added that starting pay for Amazon’s frontline workers in Ireland has increased by about 27% since 2022.
The latest recruitment announcement comes as Amazon employs almost 6,500 people across Ireland. The company has continued to expand its logistics and delivery network despite carrying out job reductions as part of wider restructuring efforts.
In January, around 300 positions in Ireland were placed at risk as part of global workforce reductions announced by Amazon. The company had also carried out another round of international redundancies in October last year, resulting in about 150 job cuts in Ireland.
The creation of 200 new positions represents a fresh expansion of Amazon’s operations in the Dublin area following those reductions. The company has not indicated that the new jobs are directly connected to the positions previously placed at risk.
Amazon’s fulfilment centre and delivery stations form part of the infrastructure used to process, organise and deliver orders to customers across the country.
The company said the higher starting pay will take effect for eligible frontline operations employees later this month. The increase is expected to raise the minimum hourly rate while Amazon continues recruiting for roles across its Dublin facilities.
The latest investment in jobs and wages highlights the company’s continuing presence in Ireland, where it has built a workforce of thousands and expanded its logistics operations over recent years.
