Apple Briefly Tops $5 Trillion Market Value as Investors Reward AI Strategy

Apple briefly became the second company in history to surpass a market capitalization of $5 trillion on Tuesday, strengthening its position as the world’s most valuable publicly traded company ahead of its quarterly earnings report.

The iPhone maker reached a session high of $342.89 on Wall Street, pushing its market value to approximately $5.036 trillion before easing later in the trading session.

Earlier this month, Apple overtook Nvidia to reclaim the title of the world’s most valuable company. Nvidia had held the top spot since June 2025 and was the first company to cross the $5 trillion market value milestone.

Nvidia’s shares were last trading 0.53 percent higher at $197.63, giving the semiconductor giant a market capitalization of about $4.78 trillion.

Apple’s strong performance this year has been driven by steady demand for its products and a strategy that differs from many of its largest technology rivals. While several major technology companies have committed tens of billions of dollars to expanding artificial intelligence infrastructure, Apple has largely avoided the costly race to build massive AI data centers.

Instead, the company has relied on partnerships, including Google’s artificial intelligence technology, to power new features such as an upgraded Siri digital assistant. Analysts say the approach has allowed Apple to expand its AI capabilities without the heavy spending that has affected the cash flow of some competitors.

Apple shares have climbed about 25 percent since the start of the year, outperforming other members of the so-called “Magnificent Seven” technology group, including Nvidia, Meta, Alphabet and Microsoft.

The company’s pricing strategy has also supported demand. Analysts said Apple kept iPhone prices unchanged when it recently announced price increases for MacBook and iPad models, encouraging consumers to purchase its flagship smartphones before potential price adjustments later in the year.

This week, Apple also introduced a new device leasing program in the United States through payments company Klarna. The initiative allows customers to spread the cost of Apple devices over predictable monthly payments rather than making a large upfront purchase.

Dipanjan Chatterjee, vice president and principal analyst at Forrester, said Apple’s decision to focus on customer experience instead of competing aggressively in AI infrastructure spending has distinguished the company from many of its rivals.

He added that the new leasing program changes how consumers view the cost of buying an iPhone by replacing a large one-time payment with fixed monthly installments, making premium devices more accessible to a wider range of buyers.

Investors are now turning their attention to Apple’s third-quarter financial results, which are scheduled to be released after the close of trading on Thursday. Wall Street analysts expect the company to report revenue growth of more than 15 percent compared with the same period a year ago, reflecting continued strength across its hardware and services businesses.

The earnings report is expected to provide further insight into Apple’s strategy as it balances product innovation, artificial intelligence partnerships and consumer demand while maintaining its position as the world’s largest listed company by market value.
