Dublin Airport recorded its busiest month in history in July, with more than 3.8 million passengers passing through the airport, operator daa has said.
A total of 3,839,635 passengers travelled through the airport last month, representing a 2.3% increase compared with July 2025. The figure makes July the airport’s busiest month since passenger records began.
July is traditionally the peak period for summer travel, but daa said this year’s figures received an additional boost from passengers travelling to North America for the FIFA World Cup. The beginning of Ireland’s presidency of the Council of the European Union also contributed to higher passenger numbers on some routes.
The latest figures mark the 16th consecutive month of passenger growth at Dublin Airport. Almost 22 million passengers have travelled through the airport during the first seven months of 2026, an increase of 5.2% compared with the same period last year.
The record traffic comes as the airport faces a long-running debate over its passenger capacity. A bill removing the statutory passenger cap at Dublin Airport was signed into law last month.
The previous limit restricted the airport to 32 million passengers a year. However, the cap had been suspended by the High Court while a legal challenge was considered, meaning it had not constrained passenger numbers in 2025.
Gary McLean, managing director of Dublin Airport, said about 123,000 passengers passed through the airport each day in July.
He compared the daily traffic to one and a half times the capacity of Croke Park on an All-Ireland final day.
“This high level of traffic is now the norm during the peak summer period,” McLean said.
Despite the record numbers, he said most passengers continued to move through airport security in less than 20 minutes.
McLean credited airport employees for maintaining operations during the busy travel period, with thousands of staff working around the clock across the airport campus.
The latest passenger figures underline the continuing growth in demand for air travel through Ireland’s main international gateway. The strong summer performance also comes as airlines expand services and passenger numbers continue to rise across the wider aviation sector.
With almost four million passengers travelling through Dublin Airport in July alone, the airport is preparing for sustained demand during the remainder of the summer and beyond.
