Three killed in separate road incidents in Antrim and Waterford

Three people have died in two separate road incidents in counties Antrim and Waterford.

In County Antrim, a man and a woman were killed in a two-vehicle crash at Glenavy, near Lisburn. The victims were travelling in a Cupra car that collided with a Skoda on Lurgan Road at around 6:25pm yesterday.

The impact of the slowdown in major global economies will be “smaller” on the UAE’s growth and exports due to its relatively less exposure to those markets compared to other markets across the region, the World Bank said.

A police spokesman said officers attended the scene alongside emergency service partners, but the two occupants of the Cupra were pronounced dead at the location. The driver of the Skoda was taken to hospital with injuries.

Lurgan Road remains closed while diversions are in place. Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference number 1121.

Separately, a pedestrian in his 40s died after being struck by a car in Waterford city. Gardaí said they were alerted to the incident on the R448 in Sallypark at around 2:10am this morning. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and a post mortem examination has been scheduled.

The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was uninjured in the collision. Gardaí are asking anyone with information to contact Waterford Garda Station on 051 305300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any local garda station.

Authorities emphasised the importance of providing information to assist with investigations and help prevent similar tragedies. Police in Antrim and Gardaí in Waterford continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal incidents.

Road safety officials reminded the public to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations, particularly in high-risk areas, as investigations continue into both fatal accidents.

Both cases highlight ongoing concerns over road safety in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, as authorities work to establish the factors leading to these fatal crashes.
