Finn Lynch Climbs Leaderboard in Men’s Dinghy at Paris 2024

Ireland’s Finn Lynch made a notable ascent in the men’s dinghy event at the Paris 2024 Olympics, improving his standing significantly after two strong performances at Marseille Marina. Lynch, who was in 25th place overnight after Friday’s races, moved up to 15th overall by the end of Saturday’s competition.

The 28-year-old sailor had previously finished 26th and 22nd in Friday’s races. However, Lynch excelled in Saturday’s challenging conditions, characterized by rough seas and wind speeds of 15-17 knots. He secured a 12th place in race 5 and a seventh-place finish in race 6, bringing his total to 75 net points.

Australian sailor Matt Wearn leads the men’s dinghy event with a commanding 18 points. Great Britain’s Michael Beckett, with 40 points, and Pavlos Kontides of Cyprus, with 42 points, are trailing behind him.

On the women’s side, Ireland’s Eve McMahon had a tougher day on the water. Starting Saturday in 15th place, McMahon, who had posted 21st- and 16th-place finishes on Friday, fell to 17th overall with 80 net points. The 20-year-old’s race results on Saturday included 22nd, 34th, and 13th, with race 5 serving as her discard result.

In the women’s leaderboard, Netherlands’ Marit Bouwmeester is leading with 12 points, showing a dominant performance. Denmark’s Anne-Marie Rindom follows with 28 points, while Hannah Snellgrove holds the third position with 39 points.

With key races still to come on Sunday, the leaderboard remains dynamic, promising further shifts in standings as the competition continues.
