Ireland captain Caelan Doris is making positive progress in his recovery from a knee injury, while Rónan Kelleher and Tadhg Furlong will be assessed later this week to determine their availability for Saturday’s Guinness Six Nations showdown against France at the Aviva Stadium.
The highly anticipated round-four clash is being widely regarded as a potential championship decider, with both teams in contention for the title.
Injury Updates: Doris, Kelleher, Furlong, and Others
Doris, who sustained a knee injury in Ireland’s victory over Scotland on 9 February, has been undergoing rehabilitation and could return in time for the crucial fixture. His replacement in the round-three win over Wales, Jack Conan, is also expected to recover from a back injury that forced him off early in the second half in Cardiff.
Meanwhile, hooker Rónan Kelleher, who suffered a neck injury in the same match against Scotland, remains a doubt, with his status to be determined later in the week.
Prop Tadhg Furlong has been struggling with a calf and hamstring issue that has significantly limited his game time. The Leinster front-rower has played just one match in the Champions Cup since mid-October, and his availability remains uncertain.
Utility back Ciarán Frawley, who sustained a head injury while representing Ireland A against England A earlier this month, is on track to return.
New Additions to the Squad
Ireland has added Max Deegan, Darragh Murray, Tommy O’Brien, and Tom O’Toole to the squad, following their involvement in the Ireland A fixture. Their inclusion provides additional cover as the team finalizes preparations for the high-stakes encounter with France.
In a statement, the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) confirmed Doris’ encouraging progress and outlined the status of the other injured players.
“Ireland captain Caelan Doris continues to make positive strides, and it is hoped that he will be available for selection alongside Jack Conan,” the IRFU said.
“Tadhg Furlong will continue his rehabilitation this week, with a decision on his availability, as well as Rónan Kelleher’s, to be made later in the week. Ciarán Frawley is on course to return following his recent concussion.”
Team Announcement on Thursday
Ireland head coach Andy Farrell is set to name his matchday squad on Thursday at lunchtime, as the team looks to maintain their unbeaten run in this year’s Six Nations and edge closer to another championship title.
