Ireland Women’s Team to Face Slovenia at Páirc Uí Chaoimh in UEFA Nations League

The Republic of Ireland women’s national team will return to Páirc Uí Chaoimh in June for their final UEFA Nations League group stage match against Slovenia. The crucial clash is scheduled for Tuesday, 3 June, with a 6 PM kickoff.

This marks the second time the Girls in Green will play at the Cork venue, following their memorable 3-1 victory over France there in July 2023 during their Euro 2025 League A qualifiers.

Crucial Fixture in Ireland’s Promotion Hopes

The upcoming game could prove to be decisive in Ireland’s campaign. Slovenia, who handed Carla Ward’s side a heavy 4-0 defeat in February, are the frontrunners for automatic promotion from League B. However, if Slovenia drop points in their next three matches, and Ireland secure victories in their two games against Greece and an away fixture against Turkey, the final showdown in Cork could be a dramatic battle for promotion.

The top team in the group earns direct promotion to League A, while the second-placed side will enter a playoff against one of the third-placed teams from League A for a chance to move up.

Ireland’s immediate focus will be on their upcoming fixtures, starting with a trip to Crete to face Greece this Friday. They will then host Greece at Tallaght Stadium the following Tuesday before traveling to Turkey.

Excitement Builds for Páirc Uí Chaoimh Return

The decision to host the match in Cork was confirmed on Saturday after the GAA’s Central Council approved a motion allowing Ireland to play their final Nations League fixture at Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

Ireland head coach Carla Ward expressed her enthusiasm about returning to the venue.

“All of our players and staff talk so positively about the welcome they received in Cork and the atmosphere created in Páirc Uí Chaoimh, so we’re hoping to experience that again in front of a packed stadium,” Ward said.

Munster Rugby Also Given Green Light for December Match

In addition to Ireland’s return, Páirc Uí Chaoimh will also host another high-profile rugby match later this year. Munster Rugby has received approval to play a game at the venue in December.

Munster previously played the Crusaders there in February 2024 and famously defeated a South Africa Select XV 28-14 at the stadium in November 2022.

With both the Irish women’s football team and Munster Rugby set to return, Páirc Uí Chaoimh continues to establish itself as a key multi-sport venue in Ireland.
