Tadhg Furlong and Andrew Porter have both signed two-year contract extensions with the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU), ensuring they will remain at Leinster Rugby until the end of the 2026/27 season.
Furlong, 32, has been a stalwart of Irish rugby since making his debut against Wales in 2015. The tighthead prop has earned 78 Test caps, including three Six Nations titles, and has been a key figure for Leinster since his senior debut in 2013. Over the course of his career, Furlong has made 149 appearances for the province, securing four Pro12/Pro14 titles and a European Champions Cup.
The Wexford native, who had been linked with several Top 14 clubs, was sidelined during the November international window due to a hamstring injury. Despite the setback, Furlong expressed his delight at extending his contract with Leinster and the IRFU, stating, “To get the chance to continue my playing career in Ireland with my home province is a dream come true.”
He added, “I am delighted to extend my long association with both Leinster Rugby and the IRFU for the seasons to come. Since the beginning of my career, I have aimed to contribute positively in a winning environment, and I believe that there are bright times ahead for both club and country.”
Meanwhile, Porter, 28, has also been a central figure in Ireland’s success under head coach Andy Farrell. The loosehead prop started all 11 of Ireland’s Tests in 2024, further solidifying his place in the national squad. Porter, who made his Ireland debut in 2017, has earned 70 caps, including three Six Nations titles and appearances at both the 2019 and 2023 Rugby World Cups.
Having made 128 appearances for Leinster since his debut in 2016, Porter has also won four Pro12/Pro14 titles and a European Champions Cup with the province. Reflecting on his contract extension, Porter said, “Playing in Ireland is something that I never take for granted, and I am delighted to commit my future to my home province, Leinster, and Ireland.”
He also highlighted the wealth of talent emerging in Irish rugby, saying, “There is a huge amount of talent coming through the system at both provincial and international levels, and it is a privilege to work with such a talented group of coaches and players.”
Both Furlong and Porter’s contract extensions are seen as major boosts for Leinster and Ireland as they look ahead to the Six Nations and beyond.
