Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has acknowledged that his team is now in danger of a relegation fight following their 2-0 defeat to Newcastle at Old Trafford. The loss leaves United seven points above the Premier League drop zone in 14th place, having lost four consecutive games in all competitions and five of their last six league matches.
In an emotional post-match interview, Amorim admitted that the club’s current situation was “a little bit embarrassing,” as the team struggles to regain form. “That is really clear,” he said when asked if he believed United were being drawn into a relegation battle. “We have to fight.”
Amorim, who has been in charge for 11 games since taking over, expressed frustration over his team’s lack of progress. “We have to acknowledge our position… we have to win games and focus on surviving,” he added.
The Portuguese manager took responsibility for the team’s poor performance, saying that the team seemed “a little bit lost” at the moment. “It’s a little bit embarrassing to be a Manchester United coach and lose a lot of games,” Amorim admitted. “But we have to cope with that, difficult moments in the life of everybody. It’s a hard moment.”
Amorim emphasized that he was not looking for excuses and acknowledged that fans and pundits were tired of hearing them. “I think our club needs a shock, and we have to understand that,” he said. “It’s a very difficult moment, and we have to fight for the next game.”
The manager also stressed the need for change, calling for a shift in mentality and a focus on improving both results and performances. “We have to fight for the next game and implement the idea to win games,” he explained. “We are losing some things from the last games, and we need to get that back.”
United’s struggles have left many questioning the team’s prospects this season, with Amorim’s comments indicating that the club is facing an uphill battle to turn things around. The manager’s honesty about the situation suggests that urgent changes may be required if United are to avoid a deeper crisis.
