Cian Lynch Replaces Declan Hannon as Limerick Hurling Captain for 2025

Cian Lynch has been named as the new captain of the Limerick Senior Hurling team for the 2025 season, succeeding Declan Hannon in the leadership role. William O’Donoghue has also been appointed as vice-captain for the upcoming campaign.

The announcement was made in a statement released by the Limerick County Board earlier today. The board expressed confidence in Lynch and O’Donoghue as they take on their new roles, while also acknowledging Hannon’s significant contribution to the team in recent years.

Hannon, who captained Limerick to five All-Ireland titles and six Munster championships, has been hampered by injury issues in recent seasons. Despite his challenges, his leadership was instrumental in Limerick’s success, and his departure from the captaincy marks the end of an era for the team.

The statement from the Limerick Senior Hurling Management team paid tribute to Hannon’s leadership and impact. “We would like to wish both Cian and William the very best of luck in their roles for the year ahead,” the statement read. “Declan has led the group by example in everything he did on and off the pitch. He has been a wonderful example to those around him and a great support to all players and the management team throughout his time as captain.”

It went on to praise Hannon for always putting the team first and for making new players feel welcome and encouraged. “In short, Declan has at all times put the team first. We have no doubt that he will continue to do so as a player in 2025,” the statement concluded.

Seamus McNamara, Chairperson of Limerick GAA, also expressed his appreciation for Hannon’s leadership and wished Lynch and O’Donoghue success in their new roles. “I’d like to wish Cian all the best in his role as captain and William as vice-captain for 2025. I want to also pay tribute to Declan Hannon’s term as captain. He has been a fantastic role model and no doubt he will continue that on the field in 2025.”

As Lynch steps into the captaincy, Limerick fans are hopeful that the team will continue to thrive under his leadership, with the new captain’s impressive hurling credentials and experience as a key player for Limerick.
