Murder Investigation Launched After Death of 31-Year-Old Woman in Mallow

A murder investigation is underway following the death of 31-year-old Paula Canty, whose body was discovered in her apartment in Mallow on Friday.

The post-mortem examination, conducted by Assistant State Pathologist Dr. Margot Bolster, confirmed that Canty, originally from Kinsale and a mother of two, died as a result of foul play. While gardaĆ have not released full details of the examination, it is understood that she had been stabbed in the chest.

Canty’s body was found around midday on Friday in her apartment at the Belfry on Bridewell Lane, after gardaĆ received a call reporting an incident. The apartment has since been sealed off as garda technical experts conducted a thorough investigation over the past two days.

A second property, located nearby on Shoulders Lane, has also been sealed off for examination.

An incident room has been established at Mallow Garda Station, and a senior investigative officer has been assigned to lead the investigation. GardaĆ are now appealing to the public for any information that might help. They are specifically requesting that witnesses, or anyone with dashcam or mobile phone footage from the Bridewell Lane area of Mallow between 9 pm on Thursday and 10 am on Friday, come forward.

The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, where Canty was known. Authorities are working swiftly to uncover the circumstances surrounding her death and bring those responsible to justice.
