Sarah Healy Wins Gold in 3,000m at European Indoor Athletics Championships

Sarah Healy made history today by winning a gold medal in the 3,000 metres at the European Indoor Athletics Championships in the Netherlands.

Healy, who showed impressive tactics during the race, made a decisive move in the final 600 metres, working her way into the leading pack. By the time the final lap began, eight athletes remained in contention for the medals. Healy’s strong finish saw her take the lead in the final stretch, crossing the line in a remarkable time of 8:52.86.

With this victory, Healy becomes the first Irish woman to win a gold medal at the European Indoor Championships, securing her place in the history books.

It was a successful day for Ireland, with Mark English also making his mark in the 800 metres, securing a bronze medal. English, who has previously earned European Indoor silver in 2015 and bronze in 2019, clocked a time of 1:45.46 to add another achievement to his decorated career.

Samuel Chapple, who competed on home soil, won the gold medal in the 800 metres with a time of 1:44.88, while Eliott Crestan finished as the runner-up.

Both Healy and English’s podium finishes are a testament to their talent and determination, bringing joy and pride to Irish athletics.
