Casualties Reported in Escalating Conflict in Gaza

Fresh airstrikes in the central Gaza Strip have reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least 47 people, according to local medical sources. Among the casualties were five children and seven women, raising concerns about the impact of ongoing military operations in the region.

Medics informed Reuters that at least 10 Palestinians lost their lives in an Israeli strike that targeted the entrance of a school sheltering displaced individuals. This incident underscores the precarious situation for civilians amidst intensified military action.

The Israeli military confirmed that its forces had identified and eliminated “several armed terrorists” in central Gaza. They also claimed to have targeted “dozens of terrorists” during raids in northern Gaza’s Jabalia area, which is home to one of the enclave’s refugee camps. These operations have intensified over recent weeks as Israel aims to prevent the militant group Hamas from regrouping following the escalation of conflict.

In a separate incident, airstrikes in northern Gaza struck a hospital, damaging medical supplies and disrupting healthcare operations, according to health officials. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have denied claims that the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beit Lahiya was being used for military purposes, despite their assertions that “dozens of terrorists” were hiding within the facility.

Earlier this week, reports indicated that an Israeli strike on Beit Lahiya resulted in 93 fatalities. Since the onset of the 13-month-long war, the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza reported that over 43,000 individuals have been killed, although these figures do not differentiate between civilians and combatants.

The conflict has also spilled over into Lebanon, where Israeli airstrikes targeted the southern suburb of Dahiyeh in Beirut, destroying numerous buildings across several neighborhoods. No immediate casualty figures were reported following these strikes, which have raised tensions in the region further.

In northern Israel, violence escalated as projectiles fired from Lebanon resulted in the deaths of seven people, including three Israelis and four Thai nationals, according to Israeli medics. This incident reflects the growing instability along the Israel-Lebanon border, particularly in the wake of intensified clashes between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, following the attacks that began on October 7.

As the situation continues to evolve, international calls for a ceasefire and diplomatic engagement are becoming increasingly urgent, with civilians bearing the brunt of the ongoing conflict.
